CCF QLD Earth Awards Finalists

Bulimba Creek Trunk Sewer has been selected as a finalist in the Project Value $30m – $75m category.

Investing to upgrade Brisbane’s sewerage network, the Bulimba Creek Trunk Stage 2 Sewer Upgrade involves installing a 4.25km gravity trunk sewer between Wecker Road, Mansfield and Settlers Street, Carindale, with 3.6km being installed using trenchless technology. The Stage 2 project is a continuation of duplicating the existing sewer network and increasing capacity in the network. Stage 1 and 1A upgrades were completed in 2004-2006 and 2011-2013 in Mansfield, Wishart, Eight Mile Plains and MacGregor. Read more about the project via this link.

Fred Haigh Dam Stage 1 Remediation has been selected as a finalist in the Project Value Up to $2m category.

Fred Haigh Dam, also known as Lake Monduran, supplies irrigation water to the Bundaberg Water Supply Scheme for irrigation, urban and industrial use.

Flood events in December 2010 and 2013 (caused by Tropical Cyclone Oswald) resulted in erosion in the unlined channel downstream of the existing concrete spillway structure. Eroded material was deposited downstream of the dam, causing water released by the riparian outlet to ‘back up’ and pool at the toe of the dam, preventing effective monitoring of seepage from the main dam. Abergeldie performed remediation works to protect the spillway structure and address the ponding of water at the main dam toe and therefore alleviate the possible risk of losing the rising main due to erosion.
