Camp Street Bridge Replacement

Abergeldie collaborated with Roads and Maritime Services (now Transport for NSW) to replace the Camp Street road bridge and the pedestrian bridge over Lake Forbes. The Camp Street Bridge Replacement project offers a newer, safer main access road to Forbes town centre for residents and visitors to the region. This project, including demolition of existing structures and construction of the replacement, was undertaken after extensive and integral collaboration with the local community to ensure they derived maximum benefit from these infrastructure upgrades. Scope of Works

Demolition of existing 60m long 2-lane concrete bridge over the Lake Forbes formed with 9 spans carried on the abutments and eight (8) RC trestle piers each with five (5) 360x360mm columns
Salvage heritage art deco light post
Construction of the new 70m bridge. The bridge comprises 10m spans which includes two 5m travel lanes (one in each direction), and 1.5m wide shoulders with a 4m wide shared path on one side and a 2m wide footway on the other

Community Benefits

The Camp Street bridge is the main access to Forbes town centre. A new, wider bridge significantly improves accessibility in and out of town. The new bridge also improves safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The community was highly engaged with this project as the Abergeldie team became integrated into the local community. Upon completion, a community bridge opening was held which involved a Smoking Ceremony, various speeches and cutting of the ribbon. Abergeldie subsequently worked with a local Aboriginal artist to develop the artwork used in our Reconciliation Action Plan, representing Abergeldie’s reconciliation journey.
