Clinker Place Stormwater Pipeline

Abergeldie is delivering the Clinker Place Stormwater Pipeline for Auckland Council to improve the stormwater network in the area, futureproofing it for the development of the Clinker Place special housing area in New Lynn.

The new stormwater pipe will run approximately 550m from the Clinker Place development site on Rankin Avenue, continuing underneath Ambrico Place to a new outfall in Manawa Wetland Reserve.

A tunnel boring machine (TBM) is being used to limit disruption to local residents with 400m of the pipeline to be installed by tunnelling. The rest will be installed by digging from above the ground.

Scope of Works

Construction of a 550m new stormwater pipe, running from the Clinker Place development site on Rankin Avenue, continuing underneath Ambrico Place to a new outfall in Manawa Wetland Reserve
400m of trenchless pipe installation using our AVN1200 TBM by two curved drives
3 temporary shafts and large diameter construction
An outfall structure into the Manawa Wetland
Street, wetland reserve, parks reserve, private property and road reinstatement
Extensive service diversions to enable shaft construction, including 11 kV power, fibre optic, sewer, potable water and stormwater diversions.

Complexity

A tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be used during construction to limit disruption to residents. The trenchless pipe installation will be completed using two downhill tunnel drives on curved alignments. As the works are being completed in a residential area with multi-unit townhouses, noise and vibration mitigation and monitoring are of key importance to the project, as well as protecting the wetland reserve and public spaces while we undertake the works.
