Abergeldie to refurbish the Churchill East pump station for Waikato Regional Council

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a contract to refurbish the Churchill East pump station for Waikato Regional Council in New Zealand. This project provides significant drainage and flood protection for approximately 1,480Ha of productive farmland and meets the requirements regarding safe fish passage.

The project will see Abergeldie replace the four existing pumps with two new enclosed Archimedes screw pumps. To accommodate the new screw pumps, the existing pump station intake and outlet structures will be demolished and reconstructed behind a coffer dam.

General Manager, New Zealand, Alastair Blackler said, “We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Waikato Regional Council on the refurbishment of the pumpstation in Rangariri. Our selection to deliver this project is a testament to our capability and experience in delivering similar projects. It’s exciting to be delivering our first project for Waikato Regional Council, contributing to the local economy and nurturing a skilled workforce within the Waikato region, all while ensuring the implementation of effective flood prevention measures.”

The upgrade of the Churchill East pump station is part of the council’s Fish Passage Project, which is being completed with funding support from targeted rates, alongside $4,480,000 from the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund.
