Abergeldie is pleased to share the recent success of several programs and industry talks designed to empower participants and promote career opportunities in the construction industry.

We are pleased to share that eight women recently graduated from the fee-free pilot BOOTS (Building Opportunities through Outreach Training and Support) program in Dubbo. This program, specifically tailored for women aspiring to join the industry, was a collaborative effort sponsored by Dubbo Regional Council and the Department of Education. Training was provided by TAFE NSW and VERTO, with significant support from Skillset and the Local Jobs Program – Far West Orana, which played a key role in delivering this transformative experience.

Thank you to the Social Procurement and Workforce Development team at Transport for NSW who played a crucial role in supporting Abergeldie’s Pre-employment Program by offering guidance and advice, streaming program delivery, mapping training to project requirements and job needs, and facilitating engagement with training organisations.

In collaboration with VERTO, Abergeldie also delivered a successful Pre-employment Program in Medlow Bath, where ten participants gained qualifications and experience in first aid, safe work methods, working at heights, manual handling, sustainable practices, and well-being. Feedback was positive, with one noting, "The modules were set up really well. The communication module, in particular, encouraged everyone to engage and learn."

Recent industry discussions at Dubbo Christian School and Gilgandra High School highlighted job opportunities for women in construction, focusing on VET pathways and non-traditional roles, empowering young women with insights into construction careers. Meanwhile, Year 10 from the Girls Can Too program at TAFE in Lithgow attended an inspiring talk, with Abergeldie workers sharing their experiences in the construction industry.

Mark Bruzzone, CEO, said, “Thank you to everyone involved in these important industry talks and educational programs. These initiatives demonstrate how effective collaboration between government organisations, industry, and education and training providers is paving the way for a stronger, more inclusive construction industry.”
