Abergeldie has been engaged by Hunter Water to deliver vital upgrades to the Belmont Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) to improve air quality, enhance safety and to future-proof its odour control systems for the Lake Macquarie community.

Located on the eastern side of Lake Macquarie, the Belmont Wastewater Treatment Works treats up to 30 megalitres of wastewater daily, servicing a population of up to 100,000 residents from Charlestown and Redhead in the north to Swansea in the south.

The project will include the installation of new sealed covers and air containment systems to control odour, reducing hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) levels and the construction of a new Odour Control System (OCS) to extract and treat air before discharge.

CEO Mark Bruzzone said “We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Hunter Water and the opportunity to continue delivering essential infrastructure upgrades like the Belmont WWTW Inlet Works H2S Management project. This initiative is another example of our teams working closely together, focused on safety, program optimisation, and value for money, leveraging our deep experience and proven design management to deliver a safer wastewater treatment process.”
