Abergeldie has been awarded a contract to deliver the Southern Highlands Overtaking Opportunities Main works package from the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC). This project is funded by the Commonwealth Government under the Infrastructure Investment program, aimed at maximising the productivity and efficiency of the Australian Freight network.
The SHOO project will provide track and signalling infrastructure to allow freight trains up to 1,800m long to be overtaken by faster services. The project will provide overtaking opportunities through the construction of bidirectional crossovers at two separate locations: Joppa Junction and Werai.
The scope of works includes signalling construction, testing and commissioning, turnout and crossing works, civil embankment works and access road improvements.
CEO Mark Bruzzone said “We are thrilled to continue our work with our client, ARTC, on this key infrastructure project. This contract award is a testament to the expertise and dedication of our rail team. We look forward to mobilising to site and delivering this important infrastructure for the Australian freight network.”
Construction is due to begin in September 2024 and completion expected in March 2026.
