Abergeldie has won the $2M - $5M Project Value category at the 2026 CCF NSW Earth Awards for its work on the Warragamba Radial Gates Control Measures project for WaterNSW.
The complex project involved critical upgrades to the radial gate systems at Warragamba Dam, an asset essential to protecting Sydney’s water supply during major flood events.
The scope included upgrades to high park brakes, renewal of hydraulic brake systems, replacement of motor brake assemblies, and reengineering of anti-condensation heater controls to improve reliability and maintainability. Works were carried out within a highly constrained live dam environment, above the spillway and over Lake Burragorang, within Sydney’s drinking water catchment and at a site of recognised heritage significance. Working within live operations and managing spill events required low-impact work methods, stringent environmental controls and a disciplined, gate-by-gate delivery approach.
Completed in December 2025, the project has strengthened the operational reliability, maintainability and flood resilience of one of Australia’s most critical water infrastructure assets.
Abergeldie was also recognised in the $5M - $10M Project Value category, with the Sandstone Pedestrian Tunnel named as a finalist. The project delivered a vital pedestrian connection between two heritage-listed buildings beneath Sydney’s CBD, while maintaining continuous operations within the hotel above.
CEO, Mark Bruzzone said, “Projects like the Warragamba Radial Gates Control Measures play a critical role in protecting essential infrastructure and the communities that rely on it. This award highlights the strength of our capability in delivering complex water resource infrastructure and reflects the commitment of our teams to delivering it safely and effectively.”
