In progress

Abergeldie, in partnership with WaterNSW, is delivering the Blue Mountains Maintaining Capability Program. The program involves the refurbishment and restoration of dams, weirs, regulators, and water supply infrastructure to enhance water delivery systems. The program is designed to uphold current operational and safety standards, as well as environmental and heritage requirements. It involves multi-staged construction and investigation works across seven sites within the Blue Mountains region, ensuring the ongoing efficiency and integrity of the infrastructure.

Scope of works

The scope of work will deliver improvements across seven sites and includes:

  • Replacing existing valves and upgrade structures where required.
  • Electrical, mechanical, and civil upgrades.
  • Weir and pump station upgrades.
  • Perform building maintenance, upgrades, and demolition.
  • Decommissioning of redundant systems.
  • Installing compliant de-stratification fan control panels and replacing existing supply's
  • Upgrading trunnion winch's and arms.
  • Building maintenance and demolition.
  • Concrete repair, ladder-way replacement and handrail upgrades.

Staged works for continuous water supply

Abergeldie has developed and implemented a strategic, phased program synchronised with seasonal variations in water inflows to storage dams and customer demand for potable water. This program will provide an uninterrupted water supply to serve the needs of local communities. By implementing staged and prioritised site locations, high-priority areas can benefit from improved conditions at an accelerated pace, ensuring efficient and effective water management across various sites.

Enhanced water infrastructure

The Blue Mountains catchment consists of three smaller catchments: Katoomba (5 square kilometers), Woodford (9.8 square kilometers), and Blackheath (7.2 square kilometers). These dams collectively provide water to approximately 41,000 people across the region, spanning from Mt Victoria to Springwood. The critical works will upgrade water supply infrastructure to ensure capacity is maintained and current operational and safety requirements are met, whilst ensuring a continuous water supply for the local community.
