Abergeldie collaborated with Auckland Council to deliver the Korotaha Terrace Pipe Renewal project. The project has assisted with flood mitigation, as the previous stormwater culvert had insufficient capacity and was in poor condition, often resulting in the accumulation of debris. The project has minimised the frequency of over-topping and reduced peak flow rates.
The scope of work included:
The project's residential location prompted an innovative construction methodology that minimised noise, vibration, and disruption while reducing the risk of settlement to nearby buildings. This saw the trench excavated, installed, and backfilled all at once. Following this, the excavation was promptly closed as the box culvert units were placed and backfilled, facilitating natural restoration of groundwater levels. This method significantly reduced disruption for residents, requiring fewer excavations, less cranage, and decreased vehicle movement along the box culvert alignment.
The project team prioritised engagement with Māori and Pasifika-owned businesses to ensure their meaningful involvement in the delivery of the project. This inclusive approach not only contributed to the socio-economic development of Māori and Pasifika communities but also enriched the project outcomes by incorporating diverse perspectives and expertise.
