Abergeldie partnered with Transport for NSW to deliver the new Intercity Fleet AC Feeder Stage 2 Upgrade, forming part of the Power Supply Upgrade Works. This project has enhanced network resilience and provides reliable power delivery to the rail network, meeting the future demands of a new fleet of air-conditioned trains.
The project involved upgrading substations, section huts, overhead wiring, and feeders, and delivering new infrastructure to create a turnkey solution. Key aerial and cable upgrades in Western Sydney include:
Upgrade of 33 KV Feeder 7Y2: Sefton Substation to Yagoona Substation:
Upgrade of 33 KV Feeder 713: Yagoona Substation to Revesby Substation:
Upgrade of 33 KV Feeder EA653: Bankstown (AG) Substation to Revesby Substation:
Abergeldie has provided critical constructability input to manage the numerous latent underground services, significantly aiding the relocation of infrastructure such as power poles. The team's expertise with key utilities, particularly Ausgrid, has expedited the approvals process. Additionally, the team coordinated with adjacent contractors working on station platform extensions.
Given the sensitive nature of moving power poles, the team has engaged with the community to ensure minimal disruption. By working flexibly with the client to maximise trackwork during weekends and implementing extensive traffic management while coordinating with local stakeholders, we have minimised impacts on residents.
This project will enhance power delivery to our rail network, increase service capacity, and ensure a reliable backup power supply.
