Vulture Street East Upgrade

QLD
Brisbane City Council
2021

Brisbane City Council engaged Abergeldie as the head contractor for the Vulture Street East upgrade. The project involved enhancements to existing sewer, stormwater, and water assets, along with the installation of a new signalised pedestrian crossing to improve safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Scope of works

The scope of work included:

  • The installation of new traffic lights for a signalised pedestrian crossing, as well as cold plane and asphalt resurfacing of the pavement within the project area.
  • The construction of stormwater management with a new gully pit and connecting culvert.
  • Southern side enhancements on Vulture Street, including footpath widening and new kerb and channel.
  • The installation of kerb ramps on Vulture Street and the Western side of Withington Street, along with the replacement of water services and sewer connections at proposed stormwater box culverts.
  • Works on live assets as well as provided signage and line marking.

Upgrading one of Brisbane’s busiest roads

Vulture Street is on one of Brisbane's busiest roads. The upgrades required meticulous traffic management plans to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the works. The management of pedestrian and vehicle access to adjacent commercial and private premises was key to the success of this project, with measures put in place to ensure network accessibility throughout the project. Noise disruptions were conscientiously minimised, with all works strategically scheduled during approved operational hours, resulting in minimal disturbance to sensitive receptors within the local council area.

Community benefits

The completion of this upgrade has significantly enhanced safety for both pedestrians and vehicles navigating the local area. The addition of a signalised crossing not only enhances safety and accessibility at this busy intersection but also controls the flow of traffic on Vulture Street.
