Yarra Valley Water Sewer Mains Renewals

VIC
Yarra Valley Water
2016 - 2024

Yarra Valley Water’s (YVW) Sewer Mains Renewals program delivered critical rehabilitation works across ageing sewer reticulation mains and branch sewers, improving network reliability and supporting reliable wastewater services for customers. Abergeldie provided investigation, design and construction services, including the rehabilitation of sewer assets ranging from 100mm to 900mm in diameter, property connection sewers and spot repairs.

Through the successful delivery of this program, Abergeldie continued to strengthen its more than 20-year relationship with YVW, supporting the renewal of critical water and wastewater infrastructure across Melbourne’s northern and eastern suburbs. In 2024, YVW combined its Water Mains Renewals and Sewer Mains Renewals programs into the Yarra Valley Water Delivery Reliability Program, bringing these renewal activities together under a single integrated program.

Scope of Works

The scope of work involved:

  • EX fold and form relining: 150mm x 36,605m; 225mm x 52,911m; 300mm x 508m.
  • Spiral relining: 300mm x 1,576m; 375mm x 2,645m; 450mm x 558m; 600mm x 131m.
  • CIPP relining: 100mm x 25m; 150mm x 334m; 225mm x 10m.

Optimising delivery through innovation

Our team utilised a range of technologies and methods to deliver sewer rehabilitation works t, with crews trained across multiple lining technologies to provide flexibility in optimising delivery across varying geographies, asset conditions and customer environments.

Consistency of delivery and communication was key to the successful relationship with YVW. As teams changed throughout the contract, ongoing training and supervision supported reliable, high-quality delivery and maintained a shared understanding of expectations.

The program also involved a range of innovative rehabilitation solutions, including EX, spiral and UV CIPP lining technologies on pipes ranging from 150mm to 750mm in diameter. The Australian-manufactured EX PVC fold-and-form pipe lining provided a trenchless rehabilitation solution for gravity sewer networks, while a bespoke claw fitted to a 6-tonne excavator improved productivity and reduced costs during vent tube replacements by removing the need for cranes.

Supporting reliable services for the community

Works were delivered across various sites within the YVW service area, including suburban roadways, residential and commercial properties, laneways and park reserves. Our crews and project team worked closely with YVW to minimise community impacts. Through the rehabilitation of ageing sewer infrastructure, the YVW Sewer Mains Renewals program supported the delivery of safe and reliable sewerage services for more than 2 million people and 61,000 businesses.
