Construction well underway on regulators for the Yanco Creek Modernisation Project

Construction is underway to replace two ageing regulators along Billabong Creek at Hartwood and Wanganella and build two new regulators at Wanganella Swamp, with Abergeldie proudly delivering the works in partnership with the NSW Government. The works are part of the Yanco Creek Modernisation Project, which is being delivered under the NSW Government’s Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) Acceleration Program and is fully funded by the Australian Government. The five SDLAM Acceleration projects are supporting improved water management and sustainable outcomes across the Murrumbidgee and Murray regions of southern NSW.

With decades of experience in water resource infrastructure, Abergeldie has established itself as a leader in delivering complex water resource infrastructure projects that improve water security and ecological outcomes across Australia and New Zealand. Our experience includes being a delivery partner for the Asset Replacement and Renewal Program (ARRP) as well as other major projects like the Seaham Weir Refurbishment, Coolmunda Dam Gates Variable Counterweight Refurbishment, Silverleaf Weir Upgrade and Grahamstown Dam Stage 2 Augmentation.

The Yanco Creek system links two of Australia’s largest rivers – the Murrumbidgee and Murray. The Yanco Creek Modernisation Project includes the construction of new regulators, access culverts and associated works. Abergeldie is delivering three major works packages including:

• Constructing new regulator assets at Wanganella Swamp to meet inundation targets, including the delivery of two new regulators on Eight Mile Creek (the Wanganella Swamp northern and southern regulators).
• Hartwood Regulator and Wanganella Regulator: Construction of two large instream regulators on Billabong Creek, located immediately downstream of the existing Hartwood Regulator near Conargo and the Wanganella Regulator near Wanganella. These structures will each feature automated lay flat gates and a vertical slot fishway to improve flow control, water management and ecological outcomes.
